Traveling alone has been a very popular travel trend for a few years, and it is also increasing in 2025. Personally, it is one of the trends I feel most connected to, since I had this experience first-hand during my trip to Thailand a few years ago, which I told you about previously!
It is not an experience for everyone, but certainly, for those who live it, it has a great emotional impact. A journey that leaves a mark, a trace for life.
“…One is a little lonely in the desert,”
said the little prince.“…One is also lonely with men,”
Antonie de Saint-Exupéry
replied the snake.
Traveling alone…towards the unknown!
Traveling alone is first and foremost an opportunity to explore and look inside yourself in a totally new and unusual perspective, far from social expectations. In a certain sense it is traveling towards ourselves, learning to listen to ourselves, to sharpen our senses, escaping from a “noisy” reality.
It is about leaving your comfort zone, towards an unpredictable and unusual adventure. Moreover, it’s an escape towards the unknown, leaving behind our old skin, marching towards a change. There we are 100% protagonists and we learn to be autonomous and independent!
Another aspect that a solo trip offers is coming into contact with cultures different from our own, sometimes at the antipodes. Thus, we open our minds. We learn, ask ourselves questions, develop the concept, for a certain period of “living like a local”. Some solo trips include a full immersion in nature. An experience in pleasant and isolated places, where you can meditate, unplug, let stress slide away, get closer to our roots.
But among the most popular trends of 2025 there is also the “Me-Moon“! It’s a solo trip that includes a “honeymoon” by getting married to yourself!
The “solo traveler” identikit
According to studies, these are young people between the ages of 25 and 49, single, who work in medium-large companies, a niche of travelers looking for authenticity and independence. And above all women.
Women travel alone because they want to, not because they don’t have a partner! Other reasons are: freedom, flexibility, breaking the routine and challenging themselves.
The most suitable destinations for traveling alone?! It depends on what we expect from our experience!
Ancient civilizations in Peru, historical markets in Thailand, trekking in the Azores, spirituality in Bhutan, street food in Asia, meditation in Tibet, relaxation on a Maldivian atoll… every corner of the world can be the cornerstone of our inner journey!
A solo trip begins with the fear of not making it and ends with the certainty of having undertaken a “transformative travel”. We always come back different from how we left, not necessarily better or worse, but more aware.
Have you ever traveled alone?!
